Moving and Impulse Shopping

For the third time in under a year, I have a new place to call “home.” Moved into my Crystal City apartment Sunday where I joined two other persons in our three-bedroom apartment. My room is a decent size, the living room is very spacious, and it’s extremely affordable. I even have a reasonable view.
Went to Ikea with my parents (who needed a lamp) to shop for furniture for my new place. Got a desk chair, a chest, a night table, and a set of dining room chairs (the previous set in the apt are falling apart). So far the chest and the DR chairs are successfully assembled. In a few weeks I’ll re-assess the situation; perhaps a foosball table is in order.
When I was showing my ‘rents the place, we ate dinner at the Pentagon City mall. Upon entering I was immediately distracted by these two kids swinging ping-pong paddles in a rhythmic fashion. Upon a closer inspection I found them staring at a TV and playing “virtual ping pong.” I quickly declare “I got winner,” and then force the winner (he’s around 7) to stay and play me. Perhaps “force” is too strong a word: convince. I convinced him to play me. In either case, he did play me, and kicked my butt pretty well (21-16). Determined not to be embarrassed by a second-grader ever again (in the field of virtual ping pong), I walked away from the kiosk with a bag in my hand and $50 fewer on my credit limit.
While I almost universally refrain from impulse shopping, apparently I like losing even less.

hey data! i was in dc this past weekend, i was going to try to get in touch with you, but realized i had neither internet access nor a phone number. but, i am going to try to head back down to washington for a less school-regulated trip at some point this summer. and, a lesson…second graders are essentially unbeatable at virtual ping pong, so don’t be too embarassed.

Hrmmm, perhaps you are right about the second graders. I just emailed you my cell phone number, so problem solved for next time.
Hope you had fun here. I’ve actually only brushed by the WWII memorial so you’ve probably beaten me to that attraction. Kinda sad since I live here…well, I’ll get to it eventually.
