My friend ran into a “really hot german girl” today, but the conversation didn’t go too well. He mentioned his displeasure that the Germans had eliminated both the U.S. men’s and women’s soccer teams in their most recent respective World Cups. Then
Her: Well, the U.S. teams have a lot of growing up to do.
Him: I guess since we won the first two world wars, we can call it even.
To which she took offense, and he lost any chance of hooking up with this girl. I didn’t think it was too offensive. Thoughts? We discussed the possibility that Germans dislike looking back on that part of their history.
In other news, Clark’s campaign manager quit. What? He lasted 20 days, if that?

lol! That’s a great line. But yeah, I suppose that could be offensive. Not that she should have taken that personally, but he’s going from joking about sports to joking about politics. And some people take that more as a personal attack/insult. But whatever… if she was actually offended by that, she might not have been such a good prospect for hooking up anyway. ;)
“might not have been such a good prospect for hooking up anyway”
but I said she was hot?
yeah, but the point of hooking up is to not have any attachments or whatever… if she’s going to get upset over a joke, chances are she’s an emotional type of person… meaning, she’ll get attached and want more than just a hookup. but that’s just my extrapolation from two lines of conversation.
That’s quite the inference there, Jane, considering that you’ve never met her and are getting this information third-hand.
Plus, girls that “hook up” usually aren’t the emotional type; well, they aren’t in my experience, which probably biases the sample.
This two-way conv is eerily like email or IM…but public: does that mean that we’re secure people (or at least in our opinions)?
Yes, but I find my psychoanalyses tend to be very accurate despite how little information I am given. I have already given these two people nice personalities and happy, little lives far away from me.
Anyway, I guess I don’t have as large a sample as you for hook-up girls… but I agree that those who hook up tend not to be as emotional. And conversely, if she is emotional, she would probably not want to hook up. Thereby making her a bad hookup prospect. But only if my assumption was correct. I don’t know where I’m going with this now, so I’m going to stop…
But the email/IM thing… yeah, i’m just lazy. and the comments thing is convenient. Maybe not so secure, but it makes little difference whether I post something here or on my blog. I never really know who will happen across and read it.
Great, Aaron. Now my personal life becomes public record….
As a footnote, the “hot girl” and I are on much better terms now. I wouldn’t categorize it as a “friendly” relationship, but she doesn’t hate me. And as for hooking up, the existence of her boyfriend precludes that possibility.
Well I hope by saying “my friend” doesn’t narrow down the potential list of people far enough to trouble your privacy sensibilities…I’d like to think my social circle is wide and diverse enough to preclude that possibility.
Thanks for the update, btw, I’m sure the world is happy to gain that knowledge ;)
a footnote: the whole incident actually makes some sense, since most of germany culturally tries to reject the fact that world war II ever happened (or that they were the ‘bad guys’). to my understanding, white supremacy and neo-nazi groups are totally illegal in the country. the germans are still pretty touchy about it, so i guess the joke could be considered culturally insensitive or in poor taste ;)
also: re hookup girls. i’m so glad i know exceptions to the rule. again.
it’s not healthy though – being emotional and hooking up with people. but does that make one a bad hookup prospect? if you can say, flee the country and never see the chick again, then she still may have put out really well ;). my understanding of hookups is that they aren’t generally thought through on a long-term basis anyways. buuuuuuuut i could be wrong about that.
I’m guessing the fact that I do deliberately think through my hookups says something about my personality.
No one likes to be reminded of getting their ass kicked . Twice.
Just ask the French.
