Sleepless summer continues

Continuing with the national theme, I’ll be sleepless in the office on IM. Feel free to poke me on IM. Then, tomorrow, it’s off to northern NH to camp! Two days of NH staff training and bonding. I’ll be training people on the database and learning how the minds of non-techies work. Mysterious stuff, I tell ya.
Don’t forget to donate to Dean. Only about 26 hours left til the deadline–we’re going to need a big push at the end to get to $1 million. So….if you believe in balanced budgets, health care, and a sensible foreign policy, help us out!

Sleepless Summer Tour Begins!

The Falls Church rally is happening right now. If for some reason to happen upon this blog by 7pm, check out the live video feed. Jane has parked herself in front of the “crowd shot” Internet camera–she’s the cute asian girl with shades.

Cheaters Sometimes Prosper

F#(&!
Well, the semifinals went well. Despite my piss poor hitting, we crushed Gephardt. Dr Dean himself was in attendance, and boy did we put on a show for him. The final was 14-3.
Then we waited as Lieberman and Kerry went into extra innings. An then we waited some more. And some more. In the 3rd extra inning, Kerry finally won.
So, Kerry v. Dean in the final. Exactly what everyone wanted to see. We lost the toss so we hit first, promptly took a 5-0 lead.
After 2.5 innings, out lead was 13-2. Then our bats went silent. Kerry started hitting homers over the short left field porch. With Kerry down to three outs, the score was 14-12.
Well, that’s ok, we still had the lead. The curcial point occurred with two outs, and a runner on third, tying run–a big hitter–at the plate. One more out to victory. One home run away from disaster.
Home run. Left-center. Like I said, F#(&.
They won it in the next inning. BUT, after the game it turns out that Mr Home-run *wasn’t* supposed to be up! They cheated to win! Well, like I said in the last entry, “All’s Fair…”. We’ll just have to crush them in January.

All’s Fair in…

…love, war, running for president, and playing softball when you’re running for president. Semi’s *and* the finals are tomorrow. Here’s the recap (as reported by ABC’s The Note):
From the Dean campaign: “The Dean for America Campaign today defeated Senator Lieberman’s New Hampshire staff 13-7 in the opening round of the New Hampshire softball tournament. Proof that ‘the bat’ isn’t just an Internet gimmick, the people-powered Dean offense produced thirteen runs in the definitive victory. The team MVP was Chad ‘Cha-Cha’ Buldoc, who proved he had the power with a three-run home run and stellar defense at shortstop. Dorie Clark showed what a gutsy grassroots campaign is all about when she shrugged off an injury on a close play at first and went on to pitch a complete game win. Matthew Gardner, Dean for America’s softball coach who doubles as New Hampshire Press Secretary, dismissed suggestions that his squad had ‘peaked too early.’ ‘Any team would kill to be in the position we’re in,’ said Gardner.”
And a picture to boot (I think that’s my back, 2nd head from the left, as not too many ppl have that much neck hair):

We play Gephardt in the Semi’s. Kerry and Lieberman (as the wild card) are in the other semifinal.

Happy Days

1st, this ARG poll comes out. Medium story, short: Dean 28% – Kerry 21%
Then, the Falls Church leg of the Sleepless Summer tour surpasses 2,000 registered participants (thanks to my parents and Jane’s advertising).
And tonight, Gov Dean was in Manchester for a house party. I was in charge of parking arrangements (with the rest of the tech team–our CS skills come in reeeal handy in backyards). Over 200 people came (!!!), including the mayor of Manch, the NH Dem Party chair, and Jeff Greenfield. Yay! :) :) :).

this is usually a sign that you screwed up the query:

Query OK, 70026503 rows affected (6 min 52.87 sec)
Records: 70026503 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0

Well, at least it didn’t waste much of my time :)

Digimon

So, yeah, as the title suggests, it’s been a slow couple days. Temple Israel couldn’t even pull a minyan[1] together for the service, so I’m not sure how much I’ll go back. Maybe UNH-M has a Hillel…maybe…
Di-di-di-digimon! I spotted my fav 21st Century kids cartoon (I’m partial to Seasons 1 and 2) as I was back-reading Mac Hall comics. Note Biyomon’s guest appearance.
[1] Egalitarian (in the prev post) means ignore the “men” part of linked definition.

Recovery

Today I tied up some loose ends, my body didn’t really feel up to doing hardcore work (after the 5K yesterday). In that vein, I’m cutting out early to go to Shabbat services at the one conservative shul in Manch, Temple Israel. They’re egalitarian, which is pretty much a dealbreaker nowadays for me.
Dude! H*R made it into the Boston Globe. In the words of Strong Bad: check it out; no, seriously, check it out.
