Finally, real news!

So, I finally have interesting news from the campaign that I can share. Yesterday our communications director Dorie got into a “discussion” with a Kerry staff. Read all about it here. The story was oft-repeated in the office to many guffaws; Dorie describes the Kerry staffer’s actions as “strategic error.” (And, yes, I got permission to post that.) Unfortunately, the article doesn’t do justice to Dorie’s sarcastic “olive branch” remarks. The real life version is much better.
In other news, a Kerry intern wants to join Team Dean, and we got a new website skin. They took Samidh’s suggestion and got rid of that ugly picture of Dean at the top.
Jane has some great links today: including, Chrstian Science Fair (via Sean) and In the beginning there was the command line. I just finished reading Snow Crash by Mr Stephenson (pretty good), and once I’m done with The Tipping Point (very informative), I’ll munch on “in the beginning.”

Modes of transport

My commute, from my new place to the office, is 13 minutes–via rollerblade. This morning I tried to remember which side of the road the good sidewalk was on for future trips (there were tons of potholes and general yuckiness). The nice part is that the end of the run is over a smooth bridge, which gives me time to throw on my tie ;).
The car situation is that I’m going to get a 2004 Prius when they come out in about a month. The 2003 that I had my eye on was sold before I could make the trip to the dealer (i.e., before a weekend). Since the 2004 gets better milleage, is a little bigger, and is supposedly going to be sold for the same price, I’m just going to wait it out. (Plus it comes with bluetooth!) The forced exercise of rollerblading only reinforces my decision.

New Digs

Moved off my boss’s couch and into supporter housing last night. My “houser” is Cynthia, a vibrant 85-year-old. And by vibrant I mean “significant other” vibrant; he lives outside of Manchester, so she said I wouldn’t be seeing too much of him. Now that I have all my boxes in an accessible place, life is much better. For instance, I can use my digital camera:

That’s my room. So I’m now visitable, or will be when I’m done unpacking and there’s a floor again.

Odds and Ends

&nbsp &nbsp …or odd ends, rather:
1) Found my pen that I had been missing for two days; it came back to me with it’s tip chewed up. We’re not talking just a little bit, either; the pen had been bitten so hard that the plastic now looks like one of those parametric flower figures dorky HSers draw on their TIs.
2) I filled out MIT’s post graduation survey. The best part was the salary question. I bet I dragged course 6’s (comp sci) average down by a lot :).
3) Asma has this odd poem about the end of Jane’s 21st year.
that is all.

You’re Unbelievable

Even I didn’t think we could hit $500,000. Wow. Ok, I’m leaving work now.
Btw, props to Sarah for an unbelievable ALL-VEGETARIAN dinner :). That’s the best meal I’ll get for a while.

Great day all-around

Two Bats! Dean campaign on the warpath: showing Bush-Cheney the real way to raise money. Over $450,000 at the time of writing–projections show that it’ll finish at a little less than a half-mil. Contribute if you can.
Marc showed me this cool page that tracks blogs. Of course, to be valid it would have to actively crawl the web instead of passively receiving URLs.
Tonight, potluck dinner at colleauge’s place. Then, back to the office to launch the database!!!

It’s the little things…

…like the 24-hour Brook’s Pharmacy with a grocery section across the street from the campaign. That will be my savior throughout the campaign. I picked up their last multi-grain loaf of bread (on Kate’s dietary suggestion). Eating PB+J with OJ to boot all day is healthy, right? Gotta be better than Jane’s all-cookie diet.
Oh, I tried one of those new cereal bars (with the milk in the middle). Thumbs down.
Let’s make this a Kate-themed blog: Right now I’m in the office listening to Iceberg Internet radio–knowledge of which I gained from the aforementioned Kate. Thumbs up for this one (esp. since Jewel is front and center).

Is this a…

Alone in the office at 12:15am on “Friday” night. Clearly I’m new here. We’ll see if I’m like this in a month. But I need to stay late tonight since I took last night off:
When I was younger, my Mom always dragged me to musicals; she said I needed “culture.” Well, she was right, and has taught me well, since I’m now dragging myself to “cultural events” I know I won’t enjoy.
The campaign had free tickets to last night’s community theater production of “Guys and Dolls” and I volunteered to go. Now, really I knew nothing about this show other than (1) it was a musical, and (2) TJ put it on back in HS (clearly I didn’t go). So, I asked Josh, a theater person on the campaign, what Guys and Dolls was about. He said, “A New York street hustler.” Well, that sounded promising; and through four scenes, it was pretty good. There was a plot, gambling, and (what then seemed to be) a main character. Unfortunately, a few scenes later I was asking myself, “Is this a kissing book…er, musical?”
Next time I’m paying more attention to the title, and not to Josh.
